AZ Shooting Blowback Last Saturday's attack on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords at a shopping mall in Tuscon has unleashed a barrage of finger-pointing and accusations from both "The Left" and "The Right" that the shooter was a Republican or a Democrat (he's a registered Independent), that both are at fault. What's NEVER mentioned is the conservatives' virtual blanket of the public airwaves compared to liberal/progressive talk and comment. A report released in 2007 by the Center for American Progress The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio notes, "Our analysis in the spring of 2007 of the 257 news/talk stations owned by the top five commercial station owners reveals that 91 percent of the total weekday talk radio programming is conservative, and 9 percent is progressive. Each weekday, 2,570 hours and 15 minutes of conservative talk are broadcast on these stations compared to 254 hours of progressive talk—10 times as much conservative talk as progressive talk." Since 2007 many prog/lib stations have gone dark or switched to religion or sports talk if not directly to conservative talk so the ratio today may be more than the 10:1 the report found. Take your own informal poll by scanning your local AM radio dial and see what's on your local terrestrial stations. Eric Boehlert of MediaMatters.org spells out The Right's Rising Tide of Violent Rhetoric: It’s a wave of violence that’s cresting along with a tide of hateful, insurrectionist rhetoric that far too many conservatives refuse to condemn. Instead, the toxic talk is routinely defended as being nothing more than spirited debate. It’s not. It’s deadly. And until those in positions of power say so, the dangerous rhetoric is likely to continue. ... What’s undeniable is that the attempted assassination of Giffords took place against a right-wing media backdrop that has been targeting the government, and specifically Democrats, in an unconscionable manner: More at MediaMatters.com. And it seems the conservatives want even less "liberal" talk like the "evil" National Public Radio. The GOP is also trying to defund NPR & PBS as John Eggerton @ Multichannel News reports in Republicans Take Fresh Aim At Noncoms: Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.) has...actually re-introduced two new bills, H.R. 68, that would cut all federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) starting in 2013 (noncoms are funded several years in advance in an effort to insulate them from political pressures). H.R. 69 is targeted to NPR, only ending funding for the radio service, also starting in 2013. "Congress is playing politics with a public trust that hundreds of millions of Americans rely on for news, arts and entertainment, and for educational programming for our kids," said Craig Aaron, Free Press Action Fund managing director. "It's disgraceful that leaders of the ‘people's House' routinely threaten the nation's most trusted and respected sources of news just to score a few partisan points." Now that Republicans control the U.S. House of Representatives, they will chair most if not all of the House committees. First order of BIZNESS? Darrell Issa Asks Businesses Which Regulations Should be Killed @ CBS Hot Sheet: Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, who will lead the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, sent a letter to more than 150 companies and other organizations asking them to identify regulations that they would like to see eliminated. ... "This really says it all about whose interests the GOP is really out to protect - and it's not middle class families," added the Democratic National Committee. As we've heard over and over this past week, Words DO Matter. So how do the Republicans respond? Nadia Prupis @ t r u t h o u t explains how House Republicans Remove "Civil Rights" and "Labor" From Committee Names: House Republicans have renamed several Congressional committees by changing or removing certain hot-button words such as "civil rights" and "labor" from their titles. The Education and Labor Committee became the Education and Workforce Committee, while the Subcommittee on Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties is set to be renamed the Constitution Subcommittee....Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-New York), chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties since 2007, also spoke out against Republicans' plans to rename the panel and remove the words "civil rights" and "civil liberties." "Once again, the new Republican majority has shown that it isn't quite as committed to the Constitution as its recent lofty rhetoric would indicate. It has yet again shown its contempt for key portions of the document – the areas of civil rights and civil liberties - by banishing those words from the title of the Constitution Subcommittee." Yep words like "civil rights" and "civil liberties" DO MATTER but apparently not to Republicans who historically have opposed both types of legislation. Elsewhere Raw Story reports WikiLeaks has ‘insurance files’ on News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch, Assange claims WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said in a recent interview that he is holding back "insurance files" which could embarrass Rupert Murdoch and his international media empire at News Corporation. The secrets website was also holding of over 500 US State Department cables about one broadcasting organization in particular, he added. Assange made the disclosure while speaking to New Statesman, saying the files "will be released" if something happens to him or his organization. "There are 504 US embassy cables on one broadcasting organisation and there are cables on Murdoch and News Corp.," he said. The files "speak more of the same truth to power," he added. The government's National Commission on BP Deepwater Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling released its Final Report and a h/t to nora who notes Gulf of Mexico--Oil & Corexit PERSIST: BP and Obama deny this, but lab tests prove the pollution is there-- The Tragic State of the Gulf of Mexico: Sampling Reveals Oil and Dispersants on Mississippi Coast by Dahr Jamail and Erika Blumenfeld of t r u t h o u t: Lab tests have confirmed oil and chemicals from the dispersants in the samples tested, which contradicts ongoing statements from both BP and the Obama administration that the Gulf of Mexico is safe from the effects of the BP oil disaster. Surprised? THIS JUST IN: U.S. Bills States $1.3 Billion in Interest Amid Tight Budgets @ nyt (h/t ljm) As if states did not have enough on their plates getting their shaky finances in order, a new bill is coming due — from the federal government, which will charge them $1.3 billion in interest this fall on the billions they have borrowed from Washington to pay unemployment benefits during the downturn. ... The problem is not only the staggering number of people who have lost their jobs, but the fact that many states entered the downturn with too little money salted away in the trust funds they use to pay unemployment benefits, which they are supposed to build up in good times by taxing employers. AND Helen Brown The Fed Has Spoken: No Bailout for Main Street @HuffPo (h/t msgeaux) The Federal Reserve was set up by bankers for bankers, and it has served them well. Out of the blue, it came up with $12.3 trillion in nearly interest-free credit to bail the banks out of a credit crunch they created. That same credit crisis has plunged state and local governments into insolvency, but the Fed has now delivered its ultimatum: there will be no "quantitative easing" for municipal governments. ... If the Fed could so easily come up with 12.3 trillion dollars to save the banks, why can't it find a few hundred billion under the mattress to save the states? Obviously it could, if Congress were inclined to put non-bank lending back into the Fed's job description. Then why isn't that being done? The cynical view is that the states are purposely being kept on the edge of bankruptcy, because the banks that hold Congress hostage want the interest income and the control. Whatever the reason, Congress is standing down while the nation is sinking. Of course the Sunday Talkies will be about the fall-out from the Tuscon shooting spree, with This Anampour holding her own Town Hall live from Tuscon. Face the Bob has PA Guv ED RENDELL, RUDY "Mr. Nine-Eleven" GHOULIANI, KIRSTEN GILLIBRAND and Rep Gifford's good friend DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ also on Meet the David with CHUCK SCHUMER and TOM COBURN. State of the Candy has various mental health experts while 60 Minutes put together DESCENT INTO MADNESS to "reconstruct the pathway to mass murder". Democracy Now has plenty more coverage from the past week as does GRITtv and Ring of Fire Radio. Make sure you catch Peter B. with Harvey Wasserman and Prof Scott Bonn on the "Moral Panic" the U.S. media used in the run-up to the Iraq War. Scott Horton has some excellent interviews with Coleen Rowley, Nick Turse, Tom Engelhardt and Danny Schechter of the News Dissector and don't miss Max Keiser's interview with CATHERINE AUSTIN FITTS. You may want to keep your eye on the fast-developing story in TUNISIA and the incredible flooding in Brazil, Australia and elsewhere worldwide. The Brick TeeVee Crew is now left with the No Fun League Playoffs and a Kingless and hurt Cavs (8-31). But The Daytona 500 is February 20th PLUS it's only 30 days 'til pitchers and catchers report for Spring Training! MLB Opening Day is not far away! Stay warm and have a great week! And enjoy your 2011 Martin Luther King Day! Take in your local celebrations!

Catherine Austin Fitts on Gold, Silver and the ‘Crash JP Morgan’ Idea by maxkeiser MK: Since launching the CJPMBS campaign on 11/11/10 – when Silver was at $26.50 (after 5 years of promoting Gold and Silver: cost basis around $9 for Silver not for political purposes; but as protection against insanity) there have been two schools of thought on this campaign (while up 42% on an annualized rate of return at the same time Facebook was DEVALUED by 14% – pre-money valuation by GS): 1) It can work because JPM’s short position can be overcome with physical delivery (stock gets crushed) 2) It can’t work because JPM is the US government and so can simply tap into the Fed if necessary to cover any shorts. I have never understood the second response because it means the US dollar would get crushed – which is the same thing as JP Morgan crashing. In other words, you could save JP Morgan’s stock with a bailout, but the US dollar would have to be sacrificed. Again, at this stage of the deteriorating dollar – no accounting tricks are going to save the inevitable. So yea, JP Morgan’s stock can be kept at $44 or it can rise to $144 or $14,000 but it doesn’t matter since the dollar would be worthless and Silver would be at $500. We’re gonna get to $500 one way or another. Either JPM goes, or the dollar goes, or both. The Silver vigilantes like Sprott are gonna make this happen. There is very little Silver available – less than $30 bn. worth in total. If millions of people around the world want to make $500 happen faster, it’s up to them. It depends how much you like Wall St. laughing at you and stealing your money.

ALL LINKS OPEN A NEW WINDOW!!!

AZ shooting and more We begin with yesterday's shooting in Tuscon, from AZCentral.com Arizona Congresswoman Giffords shot; doctors 'optimistic' about recovery chances: Giffords, 40, a third-term Democrat, was shot at shortly after 10 in the morning at a Safeway at Ina and Oracle roads in northwest Tucson. Authorities identified the gunman as Jared Loughner and said the 22-year-old suspect is in custody. (Initial news accounts and reports from authorities misidentified the name as Laughner.) In a press conference Saturday night, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said Giffords was the intended target in the shooting and he described the suspect as one with a criminal record and one with mental issues. Dupnik also said he was "not convinced" that the suspect acted alone, but he declined to elaborate. Six people were killed, including U.S. District Judge John Roll, a Giffords aide and a young girl, and 18 others were wounded in the shooting, authorities said. The aide was identified as Gabe Zimmerman, 30, Giffords' community outreach director; he was engaged to be married.Check AZCentral.com for updates. ZeroHedge reports Congresswoman Gabby Giffords Shot "Point Blank In The Head" At Town Hall Event In Tucson including Update: We spoke to an eyewitness, Steven Rayle who was on the scene at the time of the shooting and helped to hold the suspect down while waiting for police. See the link for more details and Max Keiser's entry below for more stories on this. Our condolences go out to all the families affected by this bizarre attack and hope that all injured in the attack will recover quickly. ~ ~ Back in DC the GOP officially opened the 112th Congress by reading the U.S. Constitution, sort of. Original U.S. Constitution will not be read in entirety on House floor (dailycaller.com). Then Oops: GOP Reps Skip Swearing-In, Violate Constitution, Screw Up Votes (theatlanticwire.com). Meanwhile there are GOP calls from all over country trying to stop public workers' unions from striking or even abolishing these unions altogether. That makes sense: when good jobs with good bennies are hard to come by with 10% + unemployment the GOP wants to kill those jobs too! And what happened to so many pension funds that disappeared when the crash happened? Robert Reich sees right though The Shameful Attack on Public Employees: But now the right is going after public employees. Public servants are convenient scapegoats. Republicans would rather deflect attention from corporate executive pay that continues to rise as corporate profits soar, even as corporations refuse to hire more workers. They don’t want stories about Wall Street bonuses, now higher than before taxpayers bailed out the Street. And they’d like to avoid a spotlight on the billions raked in by hedge-fund and private-equity managers whose income is treated as capital gains and subject to only a 15 percent tax, due to a loophole in the tax laws designed specifically for them. It’s far more convenient to go after people who are doing the public’s work - sanitation workers, police officers, fire fighters, teachers, social workers, federal employees – to call them “faceless bureaucrats” and portray them as hooligans who are making off with your money and crippling federal and state budgets. The story fits better with the Republican’s Big Lie that our problems are due to a government that’s too big. Above all, Republicans don’t want to have to justify continued tax cuts for the rich. As quietly as possible, they want to make them permanent. But the right’s argument is shot-through with bad data, twisted evidence, and unsupported assertions. I know! Let's put Social Security in the stock market too! David DeGraw of AmpedStatus tells us about the new WH hires in Obama Renews Commitment to Complete Destruction of the Middle Class - Meet the New Economic Death Squad: The announcement of Bill Daley, JP Morgan Chase’s czar of “government affairs” (lobbying), as Obama’s new Chief of Staff may sound bad on the surface, but if you dig into Daley’s background, it gets, as George W would say, “downright evil.” Other than spending the past seven years serving Jamie Dimon at JP Morgan, Bill Daley was also a Chamber of Commerce chair. While at the Chamber, Daley “played a major role in opposing the regulation of derivatives” and signed the now infamous Chamber of Commerce manifesto to destroy middle class America. And we’re just getting warmed up… Daley was Clinton’s NAFTA czar (job exporting specialist) and he even has deep ties to the organization responsible for creating the explosion in CEO pay, all-time record-breaking inequality of wealth and shipping millions more jobs overseas, The Business Roundtable....Let’s also mention that he played a pivotal role in creating the housing crisis, was on the board of Fannie Mae, opposed financial reform, supported health insurance companies, fought for Pharma interests, lobbied for telecommunications companies and adamantly opposed the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He even railed against post-Enron accounting and auditing laws…But wait… it gets even better! As a board member of the think tank “Third Way,” Daley took a strong interest in cutting “entitlements” like Social Security and Medicare. He is a proud member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the Boards of Directors of Merck & Co., one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, and he is on the board of . . . wait for it . . . Boeing. Yes, the Pentagon-Wall Street-Pharma nexus is complete. You may now run the White House....Now, for the icing on the cake, Obama’s pick to replace Larry Summers as his top economic advisor is Tim Geithner’s right-hand confidant, former Goldman executive and Rubin disciple Gene Sperling. Sperling was also a Clinton-Rubin-Summers compadre who held this same position under Clinton, playing a direct role in implementing the very policies that fueled our current crisis. Much more at ampedstatus.com. Then Fred Branfman at AlterNet explains WikiLeaks' Most Terrifying Revelation: Just How Much Our Government Lies to Us: As important as is the issue of free speech, it is the question of whether the U.S. Executive is in fact protecting the American people through its mass murder abroad that really lies at the heart of the Wikileaks controversy. Executive Branch officials justify persecuting and threatening to murder Assange on the grounds that he has damaged U.S. "national security." If McChrystal is right, however, it is the past decade of U.S. Executive mass murder in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, now revealed beyond any doubt by Wikileaks, that is the real threat to U.S. national security....It is thus impossible to overstate the importance of the Wikileaks documentation of these lies to the American people. When a journalist reports a U.S. government misdeed, government officials automatically deny it and many Americans are unsure whom to believe. But Wikileaks has revealed official government documents that prove U.S. leaders’ lying and commission of crimes of war. The fact that the U.S. has covered up its mass murder of civilians, and that this is contributing to its losing the war, is thus no longer open to serious question. The callous and careerist politicians and journalists who daily ignore U.S. mass murder, while calling for Assange's arrest or execution, shame themselves, their children, and their profession by their indifference to non-American human suffering and obsequious toadying to illegitimate Executive power....In the end, however, the most profound questions for Americans raised by the Wikileaks documents go far beyond the Muslim world. If we can free our minds of a lifetime of official propaganda identifying the U.S. Executive with the American people, the evidence is overwhelming that in foreign and military policy the U.S. Executive Branch is an undemocratic institution that does not represent its own citizens. It operates largely independent of Congress, the Judiciary or a mass media which has largely become an arm of Executive power, broadcasting its lies far more often than it exposes them. Please read Branfman's entire post, really a fine manifesto for the need for outfits like wikileaks and see his interview below on AntiWar Radio. Obama's DOJ have other ideas. Glenn Greenwald at Salon is all over it DOJ subpoenas Twitter records of several WikiLeaks volunteers: Last night, Birgitta Jónsdóttir -- a former WikiLeaks volunteer and current member of the Icelandic Parliament -- announced (on Twitter) that she had been notified by Twitter that the DOJ had served a Subpoena demanding information "about all my tweets and more since November 1st 2009." Several news outlets, including The Guardian, wrote about Jónsdóttir's announcement. What hasn't been reported is that the Subpoena served on Twitter -- which is actually an Order from a federal court that the DOJ requested -- seeks the same information for numerous other individuals currently or formerly associated with WikiLeaks, including Jacob Appelbaum, Rop Gonggrijp, and Julian Assange. It also seeks the same information for Bradley Manning and for WikiLeaks' Twitter account. The information demanded by the DOJ is sweeping in scope. But there is hope somewhere. John Lichfield of The Independent UK reports in The little red book that swept France Indignez vous! (Cry out!), a slim pamphlet by a wartime French resistance hero, Stéphane Hessel, is smashing all publishing records in France. The book urges the French, and everyone else, to recapture the wartime spirit of resistance to the Nazis by rejecting the "insolent, selfish" power of money and markets and by defending the social "values of modern democracy". Word has it they're trying to get this translated into English and published stateside! Vive La Resistance! Sunday's talk shows are certainly going to be affected by the shooting in Tuscon but will carry on with other business. Face the Bob gets STENY HOYER & CHUCK SCHUMER to battle JON KYL while Meet the David gets an exclusive with HARRY REID. This Anampour gets a gaggle of lawmakers and a roundtable featuring HOWARD DEAN, ARRIANNA HUFFINGTON and DICK "Head Teabagger" ARMEY while State of the Candy gets her own gaggle of lawmakers and DNC Chair TIM KAINE. The Brick TeeVee compound is littered with empty beer cans after a full week of college bowl games including the crazy Ohio State win over Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl and a crazier game seeing the MAC's Miami OH victory over Middle Tennessee in the GoDaady Bowl (formerly the GMAC Bowl). The NFL Playoffs begin this weekend and last year's Superbowl teams are BOTH OUT. Stay warm, stay safe and have a great week!

Bush started an unnecessary war to eradicate the “Vietnam syndrome” of American aversion to war; and how US triumphalism in post-Soviet occupied Afghanistan escalated the civil war that eventually brought the Taliban to power in 1996. Grant F. Smith January 05, 2011: Grant F. Smith, director of the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy in Washington, D.C., discusses how Steven Rosen’s lawsuit disclosures are shining a light on the highly-secretive inner workings of AIPAC; the pro-Israel media’s focus on the “injury of the United States” part of the Espionage Act while ignoring the “advantage of a foreign nation” part; why Attorney General Eric Holder would rather prosecute WikiLeaks than AIPAC; Rosen’s violation of court proceeding rules that may get his case dismissed; and the 1700 or so generous donors to AIPAC – many of whom also support Israel’s Likud Party – who essentially dictate US foreign policy in the Middle East. Gareth Porter January 06, 2011: Gareth Porter, independent historian and journalist for IPS News, discusses how Gen. James Jones pushed for NATO to take over the Afghanistan occupation, giving the purposeless organization a new raison d’etre; NATO’s inability to deal with the Afghan insurgency (that wasn’t supposed to happen) after the quick and resounding US ouster of the Taliban; President Bush’s willingness to cede control to NATO in order to free up soldiers for his preferred war in Iraq; and how European countries – expecting to participate in peacekeeping rather than military operations – are quickly souring on Afghanistan. LISTEN HERE (mp3) 18:47
Fred Branfman January 06, 2011: Fred Branfman, writer for Alternet.org, discusses how the WikiLeaks documents reveal, more than anything else, the “vast lying machine” of our government and military; why the Cablegate disclosures alone are enough to justify a new Nuremberg-style war crimes tribunal; how US military escalations in Afghanistan and Pakistan are counterproductive when considering (Ret.) Gen. Stanley McChrystal’s “insurgent math;” and why the US government – not WikiLeaks – is a danger to national security and needs to be reigned in before another 9/11 attack makes the US a police state. LISTEN HERE (mp3) 28:52
Greg Mitchell January 06, 2011: Greg Mitchell, author of the Media Fix blog for TheNation.com, discusses his multi-week long effort to provide daily blog updates on WikiLeaks stories; why the few mainstream journalists who aren’t openly hostile to WikiLeaks are keeping their mouths shut; the spectacle of Judith Miller scolding WikiLeaks for bad, harmful journalism; Bradley Manning’s inhumane treatment in prison; and why the decline in MSM WikiLeaks coverage can be partly contributed to lack of demand, ie: Americans don’t care. Backward Forward 2010! Given the propensity of President Not Sure wanting to "look forward" and not back at all the crimes of the previous admin we'll begin by looking forward withDday @ FDL (h/t jen) who sums it up: During the Great Recession, we’re sadly seeing a slow return to those Gilded Age, pre-New Deal policies, as what remains of the safety net staggers along. Social Security is under attack from deficit frauds like Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles. Unemployment insurance, food stamps and welfare have weathered blows for years, especially as their costs rose when demand for their services increased. A new Republican Congress will demand more cuts, squarely on these and other social programs, or will threaten to destroy the full faith and credit of the US government. It’s important to look to history to see the inevitable consequence of these backslides. If Democrats follow Republicans down the deficit rabbit hole, especially if they break faith on the bedrock promise of Social Security, we’re sure to see a return of the poorhouse, and the cruel belief that the people contained therein are somehow inferior, somehow given to rejecting self-sufficiency, somehow lazy, somehow defective. That belief has already crept into discussions about the 99ers, or the long-term unemployed. (See Nicole Sandler's Helpthe99ers.com and crooksandliars Help the 99ers ) Thanks for that absolutely "looking forward" insight, Dday. Everyone has some kind of "2010" list of some sort. Here are a few you might like!

Democracy NOW!
»»» JULIAN ASSANGE @ Democracy NOW! WATCH NOW Julian Assange on WikiLeaks, War and Resisting Government Crackdown 2010 can be defined as the year of WikiLeaks. The whisteblowing website first made headlines around the world in April when it released a video of a U.S. helicopter gunship indiscriminately firing on Iraqi civilians killing 12 people, including two Reuters news staff. In July, WikiLeaks created a bigger firestorm when it published more than 90,000 classified U.S. military war logs of the war in Afghanistan. Then in October, WikiLeaks published some 390,000 classified U.S. documents on the war in Iraq—the largest intelligence leak in U.S. history and the greatest internal account of any war on public record. And in November WikiLeaks began releasing a giant trove of confidential State Department cables that sent shockwaves through the global diplomatic establishment. Throughout it all, WikiLeaks and its founder Julian Assange were targeted by the U.S. and other governments around the world. We play our interviews with Assange and with Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg. RELATED Pentagon Whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg: Julian Assange is Not a Terrorist

This Week on The Best of Ring of Fire! December 25th, 2010
    • On the best of Ring of Fire this week: Congressman Jerrold Nadler will be joining us to discuss the recent war crimes admissions of George W Bush, and he’ll tell us why he thinks we need to move forward with prosecutions.
    • We’ll be taking a look at what the Tea Party is planning to do with itself now that they’ve actually got some of their own in Congress – Mother Jones’s investigative reporter Stephanie Mencimer warns us that they won’t be sitting quietly until the next election.
    • Speaking of the Liptonites, GRITtv’s Laura Flanders stops by to talk about the new book she’s just edited: “At the Tea Party – The Wing Nuts, Whack Jobs and Whitey-Whiteness of the New Republican Right… And Why We Should Take It Seriously.”
    • And author Ari Berman will be here to talk about how the Democratic Party has abandoned the great organizing campaigns that Howard Dean crafted over the last few years, and why we won’t be able to win elections if we don’t reconstruct it.
A special note: As David Bender announced he has decided to leave Ring of Fire at the end of the year in order to work on several new projects, including a book and a documentary film. This week we’ll be announcing our newest torch-bearer in the Ring of Fire – and you won’t want to miss the big news! (HINT: His name begins with Sam Seder! Check out his LIVE weekday podcast 11:30 am et @ Majority.fm! -Ed.)

    • VIDEO! Congressman Nadler – Let’s Begin Torture Prosecutions In George W. Bush’s new memoir – Decision Points – and in subsequent interviews, the former president admits that he authorized torture techniques such as waterboarding during his time in office. And even though this admission stirred up media outlets, the admission disappeared almost as quickly as it surfaced. But Congressman Jerrold Nadler believes that this admission should spark a wave of prosecutions, and he recently spoke with Bobby Kennedy about what needs to be done now that this information is out in the open.
    • VIDEO! Papantonio: Corporate America Loves Sweatshop Capitalism Corporate America is doing a fantastic job creating jobs. The only problem is that they aren’t creating any of them in America. A new report shows that in the last year, US corporations have created 1.4 million jobs overseas, while creating less than 1 million in the country they call home. Mike Papantonio takes on these corporate bastards on MSNBC’s The Ed Show.

We love guys and your show. You rock. Pretty exciting that silver almost broke $31 in 2010! After our Hitler parody for Crash JP Morgan Buy Silver, we put together this new “End the Fed” parody combining the 1984 Apple commercial and Helicopter Ben’s 60 minutes interviews. Not as amusing as the former, it was a technical labor of love, but we hope it helps send a message that we need to put these central banksters out to pasture. We hope you like it and will post for your blog readers.

Michael Hastings Dec 29, 2010: Michael Hastings, author of the infamous article “The Runaway General” in Rolling Stone magazine, discusses the seeming resolution of Iraq’s incredibly lengthy government-formation process; the firm Shi’ite grip on power and long-term marginalization of Sunnis (exemplified by their go-to man in government, the Shia Ayad Allawi); Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki’s conflicted and complicated relationship with Iran; and the remarkably successful Gen. Petraeus Iraq surge (narrative). LISTEN HERE (mp3) 17:03
Gareth Porter Dec 23, 2010: Gareth Porter, independent historian and journalist for IPS News, discusses the increasingly brutal US tactics in the Kandahar offensive in Afghanistan including the razing of entire villages; how the US breaks self-imposed counterinsurgency rules when the going gets tough; the realization of mid-level officers and Petraeus himself that a tough new COIN strategy is as likely to fail as previous versions; and how the National Intelligence Estimates on Afghanistan and Pakistan reveal that US success in Afghanistan is wholly dependent on Pakistan’s rejection of the Taliban – which is exceedingly unlikely. LISTEN HERE (mp3) 27:44 This recording is excerpted from the KPFK 90.7 FM Los Angeles broadcast of December 24th. The original program can be heard HERE (mp3).
