Post-election Madness! We begin with this INTERNET FREEDOM ALERT from The Common Dreams staff: 'Stop the Net Grab' Opposes UN Control of Internet Trade unions, Greenpeace and communications corporations including Google on Monday launched a campaign to stop a proposal before the United Nations that would give the UN control of the internet. "Stop the Net Grab" opposes the plan by some telecommunications companies and countries including China and Saudi Arabia. If approved, it would allow the UN's International Telecommunications Union to charge users for services such as email and restrict access to the internet and monitor activity online. The International Trades Union Conference, representing 6.2 million union members in Britain, wrote that the proposal could "restrict political freedoms and harm civil society." Such changes would hit users from developing countries particularly hard, according to the ITUC. "Unless we act now, our right to freely communicate and share information could change forever," ITUC general secretary Sharan Burrow told Australia's News Limited Network (ANLN). The ITUC represents 6.2 million union members in Britain. If the plan is accepted, according to ANLN, "the changes would allow government restriction or blocking of information disseminated via the internet and create a global regime of monitoring internet communications—including the demand that those who send and receive information identify themselves." It would also allow governments to shut down the internet "if there is the belief that it may interfere in the internal affairs of other states or that information of a sensitive nature should be shared." Chris Disspain, CEO of auDA, told ITWire that the effort is a combination of the ITU warning more power and "for some countries it is about a belief that they can control things more easily if they go through the UN." Greenpeace and the ITUC wrote to UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon to "express their "deep concern about a potentially very damaging change to the governance of the Internet," ITWire reports..... Scary stuff! These people are relentless so we must be too! Get on board and sign the "Stop the Net Grab" petition NOW! Tell everybody! Meanwhile the lame duck GOPher-controlled Ohio Legislature continue their own War On Women. Laura Bassett at HuffPoAOL tells us Ohio Committee Votes To Defund Planned Parenthood The 2012 elections may be over, but legislative attacks on Planned Parenthood are still underway. The Health Committee of the Ohio House of Representatives advanced a bill on Wednesday that could strip $1.7 million in federal funding from Planned Parenthood. All 11 Republicans on the committee voted in favor of the bill, and all nine Democrats opposed. House Bill 298 would create a priority list for federal family planning funds and place Planned Parenthood at the bottom. The bill's supporters argued at a hearing on Wednesday that its purpose is to improve health care in rural areas. Opponents argued that it is an ideologically-driven attack on Planned Parenthood and the patients it serves. "What I've seen in this committee is a complete disregard for women," state Rep. Bob Hagan (D-Youngstown) said at the hearing. He added that in his district, "Planned Parenthood is the health care provider. There are no doctors." .... Several physicians testified against the bill on Wednesday, along with a woman named Emily Shaw, who said that Planned Parenthood cared for her after she was raped at the age of 13. "It is shocking to me—shocking, and so disappointing—that we’re even here to fight this bill today," Stephanie Kight, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Ohio, said in a statement before the hearing. "Politicians who want to end funding for Planned Parenthood don’t seem to know what it is we do every day. They don’t know—or they just don’t care.".... We're not all troglodytes in Ohio though. Action News 19 reports Congresswoman Fudge to chair the Congressional Black Caucus The new chair of the Congressional Black Caucus is Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11). Members of the CBC elected Fudge to serve. "I am humbled by the vote of confidence of my colleagues who have selected me to serve as the Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus during the 113th Congress. Leadership of the CBC will be shared among all officers elected and I will continue to work hard and serve with dedication, the people who sent me to Congress," said Congresswoman Fudge in a statement released Wednesday.... MORE FUDGE! In this AP/Philly.com story Dozen House women defend Rice over Libya comments "All of the things they have disliked about things that have gone on in the administration, they have never called a male unqualified, not bright, not trustworthy," said Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio, the next chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus. "There is a clear sexism and racism that goes with these comments being made by unfortunately Sen. McCain and others." .... The Democratic women demanded that McCain and Graham retract their criticism."It is a shame that anytime something goes wrong, they pick on women and minorities," Fudge said. Marcia Fudge was referring to comments made by John "Crazy Train" McCain who Skipped A Briefing On Benghazi To Hold A Press Conference reports Igor Volsky at ThinkProgress Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is demanding a special select committee to investigate the events leading up to the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya and has held around-the-clock television appearances pressing for a complete review of the incident. But all of the senator’s media interviews and press availabilities may be interfering with his ability to gather information about the event. On Thursday morning, CNN’s Dana Bash reported that McCain chose to hold a joint press conference with Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) rather than attend a closed-door briefing about the attacks:
I have to tell you something that just happened on Capitol Hill, and that is our senate producer Ted Barrett just ran into John McCain and asked about something that we’re hearing from Democrats, which is John McCain is calling for more information to Congress, but he had a press conference yesterday instead of going to a closed briefing where administration officials were giving more information. Well, Ted Barrett asked John McCain about that, and it was apparently an intense very angry exchange and McCain simply would not comment on it at all.
Video at link! Haha! Speaking of that "select committee" Ryan Grem and Sabrina Siddiqui explain at HuffPoAOL John McCain's Benghazi Committee Plan Would Give Senator New Relevance Just four years ago, John McCain was the leader of the GOP. Today, he's the highest-ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, a perch from which the former fighter pilot is deeply engaged in the national conversation over war, terrorism and intelligence gathering. But in January, the Arizona senator will lose his top-ranking committee seat due to term limits. The only ranking Republican spot available to him next session will be on the Indian Affairs Committee. (Maybe he could get Jack Abramoff and Ralph Reed as aides? Haha! -Ed.) Unless, that is, the Senate creates a brand-new select committee. On Wednesday, McCain, flanked by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), proposed just that: a select committee with extensive authority to investigate the Benghazi, Libya, attack and the U.S. government's response. The Republican most likely to hold the ranking spot on such a panel would be, of course, John McCain, giving the Arizona senator a new burst of relevance. .... "He doesn't have a clear path to do what he wants to do, and I think that's part of what's behind this proposal," said a GOP Senate aide. The aide added that because investigation into the Benghazi affair will cut across the jurisdictions of several committees, the idea of a special panel has merit. It's likely to run up against considerable opposition, however, from the top Democrats on the various committees with which it would intersect, including Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who chairs the Select Committee on Intelligence, and Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), who chairs the Foreign Relations Committee. ...... McCain's desired investigation would thus appear to center on what the administration's public statements in the immediate wake of the attack reveal about what the White House knew -- which, based on all available evidence, is what they told the American public as the information became available. What a maroon! The Bengazi "scandal" will have a life of its own on all the Sunday Talkies, as will the sexcapades of ex-CIA chief General Patraeus. We go to Our Man in Pipelineistan Pepe Escobar and his Roving Eye on Skyfall, starring David Petraeus My name is Petraeus. David Petraeus. Move over, Bond, with your Skyfall; this is the real deal, a certified political/national security blockbuster to end them all. This is how Hollywood would market it; "He had the nation's highest security clearance. But above all he was an embedded lady killer." Now for the casting. Daniel Craig could easily play The General, although The General would rather teleguide a Hellfire than an Aston Martin, and wear a "fruit salad" (as in myriad decorations) instead of a killer Tom Ford suit. Demi Moore - sultry as ever - could play "Paula". Assorted Iraqis and Afghans would play "collateral damage". Meanwhile, murky does not even begin to describe alleged reality - as in the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, retired Gen David Petraeus, resigning over a bedroom farce only two days after President Barack Obama is re-elected, amid crossfire accusations raging for weeks regarding what the CIA was exactly doing in Libya, that godforsaken land liberated by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and now ruled by a bunch of militias. As whodunits go, this plot is going nowhere. Nobody knows why this blockbuster was leaked last Friday - by the way only one day after President Obama himself had learned about it (on the other hand attorney general Eric Holder of The Fast and the Furious fame knew about it since "late summer", according to the proverbial anonymous, "US officials"). Nobody knows what the Federal Bureau of Investigation was planning to do before all hell broke loose - considering that its four-month investigation had unearthed that Petraeus and his lover, West Point graduate, fitness fanatic, adoring biographer Paula Broadwell, had not breached national security. Or maybe they had. For starters, The General - possessor of the nation's highest national security clearance - was using a mere G-mail account to talk dirty to Paula, using what The Washington Post gleefully described as "a tactic of terrorists who are rightly wary of espionage". And when it was leaked that the FBI found no "major security breaches", this means there WAS a security breach. My guy The bedroom farce elements are enough to have Moliere rolling in his tombe.... As for "my guy", he has multiple questions to answer. First of all; why did the CIA tell the White House that the Benghazi drama was provoked by that stupid "Prophet Muhammad" YouTube video - and not an attack coordinated by previously NATO-enabled Salafi-jihadis? And then, no less important; why did The General not decide to commit his public seppuku over two weeks ago, when FBI agents talked to him in person about the investigation? Was it his paramount reason the desire not to bomb the Obama administration and practically hand the election over to the Republican Party? Or maybe he was hoping the whole thing would simply be covered up, like a Pashtun wedding party obliterated by a Hellfire missile? According to The New York Times, the whole thing blew over in late October after an "unidentified" FBI employee - now identified as sending photos of his shirtless torso to Jill Kelley - spilled the beans to Congress Republicans all the way to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. Nobody knows what was this FBI's informer agenda. In a nutshell, the FBI didn't manage to keep the investigation secret. Cantor, according to the Times, had a serious meeting with FBI director Robert Mueller III on Halloween; then nobody knows what happened till Election Day, November 6, when the FBI went by the book and told James Clapper Jr, the Director of National Intelligence, about the bedroom farce. To say that Mueller and Cantor also have a few questions to answer is the understatement of the year. With US corporate media now totally berserk, the master narrative remains that The Samurai General did the honorable thing by resigning. It all goes back to good ol' American Puritanism. You can be a killing machine, responsible for the death of untold numbers of civilians. But don't you dare betraying your devoted wife. ....The failed warrior David Petraeus was more of a PR genius than a samurai to begin with. His cinematic model would be Captain Willard as played by Martin Sheen in Coppola's Apocalypse Now; the warrior intellectual. Petraeus, who for quite a while actively positioned himself as a possible presidential candidate in 2012, was clever enough to sell to US public opinion - and gullible mainstream media - the notion that he was a winner in both Iraq and Afghanistan. These are two monumental fallacies. The revolving door ethos in Washington - in this case between the Pentagon and the CIA - reached new heights of absurdity when Petraeus, who adapted his counterinsurgency tactics from Iraq to Afghanistan, as in take, clear, hold and build, was put in charge, as CIA director, of analyzing ... the counterinsurgency in Afghanistan. The Taliban must be laughing all across the Hind Kush about Petraeus's counterinsurgency "success" - which, by the way, he imposed, along with other Pentagon generals, on Obama in late 2009. Petraeus is a product of the Pentagon. He could never, by himself, get rid of the inbuilt logic of Endless War, established by Republican strategists of what French political scientist Alain Joxe has characterized as "war neoliberalism". Iraq and Afghanistan were pure manifestations of "war neoliberalism". Petraeus's "surge" in Iraq was a sham. ..... But the fact is Petraeus did not win any hearts and minds in either Iraq or Afghanistan; his take, clear, hold and build tactics ultimately led to nowhere in both cases - and we're not even talking about serious instances of torture, extrajudicial killings, illegal detentions and widespread shadow war. His "mini-surge" could only have had a shot at succeeding in Afghanistan (and that's quite a stretch) if it was not mini; if he had had access to hundreds of thousands of troops - something politically unacceptable in the US. Then there's Benghazi. What may have really happened is that the US consulate in Benghazi was a sort of CIA safe house/spy house - thus under Petraeus responsibility, not the State Dept. This neatly dovetails with "Paula" casually saying, at the University of Denver on October 26, that "prisoners" were being held at the consulate (the CIA vehemently denied it, so there must be a degree of truth to it). That the consulate was attacked by Salafi-jihadis is out of the question. The State Department may have been the fall guys - while Petraeus/CIA got away with their incompetence. Well, until the bedroom farce exploded. .... Do read all of this! Excellent analysis! Then check out these two interviews with Scott Horton (formerly of AntiWarRadio)
  • 11/13/12 Pepe Escobar Asia Times journalist Pepe Escobar discusses Israel’s opportunistic aggression in Gaza while the news cycle is fully occupied with other things; the Arab Spring counterrevolutions led by Persian Gulf monarchies; how the US could be weaned from Middle East oil (and politics) within ten years; and the ongoing developments in the Benghazi/CIA/Petraeus scandals.
  • 11/14/12 Pepe Escobar Asia Times journalist Pepe Escobar discusses the credentials of Sheikh Ahmed Moaz al-Khatib, the newly elected Syrian opposition leader; how non-vetted videos and news sources drive the mainsteam media’s coverage of Syria; talk of a Western-imposed no-fly zone and more weapons for Syria’s rebels; Kurdish autonomy movements that transcend national borders; and why a partial rebel victory/secession in Syria is really no victory at all.
Next check out Bill McGibbon and Naomi Klein on the Do the Math Tour! We’re hitting the road to jumpstart a new movement. It’s simple math: we can burn 565 more gigatons of carbon dioxide and stay below 2°C of warming — anything more than that risks catastrophe for life on earth. The only problem? Fossil fuel corporations now have 2,795 gigatons in their reserves, five times the safe amount. And they’re planning to burn it all — unless we rise up to stop them. This November, Bill McKibben and 350.org are hitting the road to build the movement that will change the terrifying math of the climate crisis. Check out Tour Dates and the roster of speakers including Naomi Klein, Kumi Naidoo, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Josh Fox, Rev. Lennox Yearwood and more! Of course the climate change deniers continue their wayward ways like Big Polluter British Petroleum. Who could forget the massive 2010 Deepwater Horizon catastrophe? The Examiner reports BP pleads guilty, largest criminal penalty in US history, arrests possible BP is facing arrests and the largest corporate criminal penalty in United States history, between $3 billion and $5 billion, pleading guilty to settle criminal charges related to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon catastrophe. It will be the largest criminal penalty in US history, according to BBC business editor Robert Peston, who says the settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice involves BP pleading guilty to criminal charges. It is thought that up to four BP staff may be arrested, Peston says. "BP is thought to be relieved that it has reached a settlement, because the potential liability was unlimited,” says Peston. Details of the settlement are expected to be confirmed by the Washington-based Department of Justice. Any deal with the department would not include other claims including individual and federal claims for damages under the Clean Water Act, and state claims for economic loss, BP has said. Human rights of thousands violated: The April 20, 2010 Deepwater Horizon catastrophe over the Macondo Prospsect where it was drilling killed 11 workers, released millions of barrels of crude into the Gulf of Mexico over 87 days, is still spewing oil and methane, and has impacted the health and well-being of thousands of Gulf coast people exposed to oil and Corexit with no federal health aid to date. Samples from an oil sheen last month matched those from the 2010 Macondo well blowout, as confirmed by the Coast Guard. "The oil giant has been selling assets worth billions of pounds to raise money to settle all claims," the BBC reports. "The company is expected to make a final payment of $860m into the $20bn Gulf of Mexico compensation fund by the end of the year." According to the BBC, BP booked provisions of $38.1bn to cover liabilities from the catastrophic event, but the company says "final cost remained highly uncertain." In September, a Coast Guard and federal regulators investigative report concluded BP bears ultimate responsibility. BP violated U.S. regulations, ignored crucial warnings and made bad decisions while cementing the well a mile (1.6 kms) beneath the Gulf of Mexico at Macondo Prospect. More civil lawsuits are expected but don't hold yer breath for a positive outcome. Ed Crooks at FT.com explains BP faces challenges with government claims To understand why BP has failed to reach a global settlement to resolve all the government claims against it, it helps to compare the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico with the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill. Two and a half years after the accident – roughly the time that has elapsed since the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded in April 2010 – Exxon settled all the government claims against it, for a total of $1.025bn, including $900m to restore the damage done to Prince William Sound. Against 32,000 Alaskan fishermen, however, Exxon fought for two decades, going all the way to the Supreme Court. The district court’s original award of compensatory and punitive damages of $5.5bn was reduced to just $1.15bn by the Supreme Court in 2008. BP, on the other hand, is now moving quickly towards a settlement with the majority of the fisherman and others who lost money as a result of the spill. ..... The final cost of the deal may end up being more than the $7.8bn that BP has estimated, but the number of plaintiffs remaining to fight on will be relatively small. At most about 11 per cent of the 119,000 original claims for economic damage filed with the court have opted out. BP’s willingness to pay out seems to be having an effect. The $2.3bn it has promised for the gulf seafood industry, for example, is almost five times the annual revenue of the entire industry in the years before the disaster. However, a deal to resolve the outstanding civil actions from federal, state and local governments, which are seeking penalties under the Clean Water Act and damages for restoring the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico, has proved elusive. Unlike the Exxon Valdez spill, the Deepwater Horizon disaster affected five different coastal states, from Texas to Florida, via Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Their interests and objectives, and those of the federal and local governments, vary widely. ..... Garret Graves, chair of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority of Louisiana, said the US Department of Justice had been doing a “great job in holding BP accountable”, and the federal government and the states were ready for the trial over the civil penalties and damages scheduled for February 25 next year. “No one is going to sell the citizens of the gulf short,” he said. “BP must pay a full price for what they did.”..... Let's hope so. AUSTERITY UPDATE EUROPE: Historic labor strikes took place all over Europe last week as the UNELECTED TROIKA of the European Commission (EC), the U.S.-led International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the European Central Bank (ECB) continue their Milton Freidman Chicago-school privatization schemes on the peoples of the P.I.G.S. and more. Start with Reuters Anti-austerity strikes sweep Europe. Then read We urge you to read these to understand what is happening there and why and how the SAME EXACT austerity policies are being pursued in the United States, formerly known as the Simpson-Bowles Plan more colloquially known as "The Grand Bargain" to avoid the media-managed "Fiscal Cliff" meme. To this end now comes CEOs make the case for a grand bargain The group seeks to reform Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security and suggest comprehensive, rate-lowering, base-broadening tax reform. The group also advises that Simpson-Bowles recommendations serve as a framework for the plan. Former White House chief of staff Erskine Bowles is a co-founder of the campaign. Not so fast! See this DN! interview with Sarah Anderson, director of the Global Economy project at the Institute for Policy Studies As Talks Begin on "Fiscal Cliff," Report Warns "Fix the Debt" a Front for More Corporate Bailouts But if you look at the details of their tax plan, you see that they are really just a Trojan horse. They’re pushing for the same old tax breaks for corporations that they’ve been pushing for for about a decade. And we looked at one of them, which is they want a permanent exemption from U.S. taxes for all of their foreign earnings. And we calculated that the companies in this campaign stand to gain a windfall of as much as $134 billion, if they get this corporate tax break through. And so, people should be very wary of this big ad campaign that they’re about to see in their newspapers across the country. This is just one more corporate attack on our fair taxation system. ...... It’s just crazy to be talking about, as he said, "shoring up the entitlement programs." That’s just Washington speak for reducing the cost of these programs and limiting access. To think that we need to shift the burden onto the backs of the poor and elderly is crazy, when we’re in one of the richest countries—the richest country in the world. Our problem is that our resources have been misallocated. ..... I’ve learned to instead call them call them "earned benefit programs," because these are programs that American workers are paying into over their lives, and they have a right to that money, to have these basic social programs that have made us a much stronger society with a stronger middle class. And to think that people are trying to use this situation to cut into those earned benefit programs is just nuts, when there are so many other places where we could get the revenues needed to deal with the situation and also to shift our economy in a way that makes it more equitable, green and secure. Now go read The CEO Campaign to ‘Fix’ the Debt: A Trojan Horse for Massive Corporate Tax Breaks by Sarah Anderson and Scott Klinger at thr Institute for Policy Studies. Don't buy into this sham and tell yer Congresscritters YOU ARE ON TO THEM and their nefarious plans to cut Medicaid and Social Security!!!! Meanwhile U.S. Corporations are not much into workers' rights (if you haven't noticed) with the latest casualty Hostess closing all its factories that make their iconic Twinkies, HoHos and Cupcakes that have a shelf life of decades! Malloy chatter CookingSherry points us to Hostess Continues Pattern Of Misinformation at the Sac Bee In a desperate attempt to break the solidarity and resolve of striking BCTGM members across the country, Hostess Brands is falsely claiming that its decision to close three of its bakeries -- St. Louis, Cincinnati and Seattle -- is the result of the nationwide strike against the company by BCTGM members. In fact, according to the company's 1113 filing with the bankruptcy court earlier this year as well as its last/best/final and non-negotiable proposal to its BCTGM-represented workers, the company was planning to close at least nine bakeries as part of its reorganization plan, although the company refused to disclose which bakeries it intended to close. This is in addition to the three bakeries that were to be closed as a result of the company's planned sale of its Merita division. Moreover, St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay was quoted in a November 13 KMOX-CBS St. Louis article stating, "I was told months ago they were planning on closing the site in St. Louis… And there was no indication at that time it had anything to do with the strike the workers were waging." BCTGM International Union President Frank Hurt stated, "The recent claim by Hostess CEO Greg Rayburn that our strike is the reason for the closure of the three bakeries is simply not true. That statement is a continuation of a disturbing pattern by the company of issuing public statements that are erroneous at best and disingenuous at worst. "Our members rejected the company's outrageous proposal by 92 percent in September. Rejection came from every corner of the country. They were being asked to vote on a proposal with massive concessions, knowing that their plant could very well be one of those to be closed. "Our members are on strike because they have had enough. They are not willing to take draconian wage and benefit cuts on top of the significant concessions they made in 2004 and give up their pension so that the Wall Street vulture capitalists in control of this company can walk away with millions of dollars." ....... Over the past 15 months, Hostess workers have seen the company unilaterally end contractually-obligated payments to their pension plan. Despite saving more than $160 million with this action, the company continues to fall deeper and deeper into debt. A mountain of debt and gross mismanagement by a string of failed CEO's with no true experience in the wholesale baking business have left this company unable to compete or survive. A total of 24 Hostess production facilities are on strike or honoring the strike with picket lines established by striking Hostess workers at other BCTGM-represented facilities. Additionally, BCTGM members at one transport facility also are on strike. Company claims that union members are crossing picket lines and maintaining production at striking plants are vastly untrue. We hope the workers and bakers formerly at Hostess plants can make an effort to bake HEALTHY FRESH twinkies (if there can be such a thing) elsewhere or another capitalist buys up the factories and rehires them. The Brick TeeVee Crystal Ball sez a hedge fund will buy up Hostess's assets AT PENNIES ON THE DOLLAR in bankruptcy court and move the equipment to China to poison those peeps with their non-food twinkies. Ugh. But the Capitalists are unloading their quivers all over Obamacare: Companies announce layoffs now that healthcare reform is “the law of the land” at BeforeItsNews.com It has only been two days since Barack Obama has been elected but the impact has already been felt, here is a list of companies who have been forced to lay off employees as a result of Obamacare. It must be remembered that this is as good as it gets, it is all downhill from here. And lastly WONKETTE posts this about the 2012 election and KKKarl Rove's now-infamous live nationwide meltdown Anonymous Claims It Stopped Karl Rove From Hacking The Election By Hacking ORCA, We Think Oh cool, Anonymous (we think it is Anonymous?) says Karl Rove was gonna vote fraud all the Machines, and that’s why he was so flabbergasted and refused to believe it when Fox called Ohio for Bamz, but they stopped him from stealing all the Machines by jamming up ORCA, because it was not actually a GOTV system but a “steal the vote” system, but they stopped him, we are pretty sure that is what the following letter, which we guess is from Anonymous probably, says. Seems legit! But here is our question! If Anonymous hacked ORCA and caused it to explode miserably on Election Day, how could Anonymous ever prove that ORCA was actually a vote-thieving program? If they hacked in, couldn’t they have planted code to make it look like Rove was gonna fraud the election? (Not that we believe for a second that Rove wasn’t trying to fraud the election, we are just saying, it seems like “logic.”) Go over there and see the Anonymous post! Geez look at the time! Wow!! Our permit to occupy public squares and parks is in The First Amendment, which affirms "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." When people across the Middle East occupied public squares, leaders in Washington mostly cheered those protesters and warned Middle Eastern governments not to use force to clear them. Those other societies don’t have a First Amendment. Yet Washington affirmed the universal right to assembly and protest. We do have a First Amendment. The force being used to clear nonviolent protesters from public squares in our country is unacceptable. It must stop.

Build political power for Internet users to make sure that we get a seat at the table whenever, and wherever, the future of the Internet is being decided. It's time to stop playing defense and start going on the offensive. The open Internet is central to people’s freedom to communicate, share, advocate and innovate in the 21st century. But powerful interests want to censor free speech, block the sharing of information, hinder innovation and control how Internet users get online. And all too often, people in power are making political decisions behind closed doors about how the Internet should operate — and they're doing this without the involvement of actual Internet users. The result: policies that could close down the open Internet and destroy our freedom to connect. It’s time for us to reclaim the Internet for its users. Take action now and sign the Declaration of Internet Freedom.. NEW!!! NET NEUTRALITY!! NOW! at change.org Stop the Net Grab! Petitioning Voting members of the World Conference on International Telecommunications The internet as we know it is at risk. Unless we act now, our right to freely communicate and share information could change forever. In less than four weeks’ time, the International Telecommunications Union (or ITU), a United Nations agency, is planning to adopt new rules to clamp down on the fundamental freedoms of citizens online. Big telecommunications corporations have joined with countries including China, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, countries that already impose heavy restrictions on internet freedoms, to put forward a treaty to the UN World Conference on International Telecommunications in December. So far the proposal has flown under the radar, but its implications are so serious that we must act quickly to show the ITU and its member countries that citizens will not stand by while our right to communicate freely is undermined. .... Add your name to the global petition and ask your government representatives who will attend this conference to reject these changes that will seriously and permanently restrict internet freedoms. Act now, before it’s too late. We need a new process where the voice of the people is properly heard. Make your voice louder by connecting with us on Facebook. AND Click HERE to view our infographic! CAMPAIGN FOR AMERICA'S FUTURE American Majority Rejects Washington Austerity Consensus – And We Demand Media Coverage by Roger Hickey, President, Campaign for America's Future: No more silent majority. The Campaign for America’s Future is joining with the Center for Economic and Policy Research (whose Co-Director, Dean Baker blogs regularly about economic bias in the media) and with FAIR (Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting) to monitor the media’s coverage and representation of the American Majority views as they go into covering the big deficit fight. But we want to enlist YOU too. Send us accounts of unbalanced coverage in the national media and in your local newspapers and television. Call up reporters, editors, assignment people and tell them when they are under-representing the views of the American Majority. We should have at least half the experts, pundits, quotes and real people represented in their coverage. Will speedy new chips and smaller margins spell doom for the currency’s core users? by maxkeiser - Bitcoin has been described as cash for the internet, but gold is a more appropriate analogy. Anyone can “mine” Bitcoins on their own computers by running a program that’s designed to produce a 64-digit number in a resource-intensive way. This program randomly computes a cryptographic “hash” over and over until the result is below the number the network is looking for. The network rewards the first miner to get the right answer with 50 Bitcoins and then the process starts again. Only 21 million will be created in total, mimicking the scarcity of a precious metal. The race to mine them has attracted a rush of digital ‘49ers. There are many, likely thousands, like O’Shea. READ Miner problem: big changes are coming for Bitcoin’s working class

Why Bankers Own the World’s Gold by SilverVigiolante - The real conclusion that must be internalized is that, while buying precious metals and other tangible assets can be an excellent way of exiting the fiat currency paradigm, we mustn’t forget that central bankers own the world’s gold. They have been in a position to accumulate for centuries, and through conniving and contrivance have ensured that their stashes are the biggest on the planet. READ Why Bankers Own The World’s Gold
