ALL LINKS OPEN A NEW WINDOW!!!

WISCONSIN DAY 13 The most up-to-date reports come from John Nichols in Madison for The Nation Upwards of 125,000 March in Madison, as Activists Rally Nationwide to Back Wisconsin Workers The people-power surge came in response to what the senior member of the Wisconsin legislature, state Senator Fred Risser, D-Madison, describes as Walker’s “dictatorial” actions, and to what state Representative Cory Mason, D-Racine, describes as “tyranny.” Much more coverage below in the BTV Alerts. Robert Reich nails it. The Coming Shutdowns and Showdowns: What’s Really at Stake There’s no doubt that government budgets are in trouble. The big lie is that the reason is excessive spending. Public budgets are in trouble because revenues plummeted over the last two years of the Great Recession. They’re also in trouble because of tax giveaways to the rich. Before Wisconsin’s budget went bust, Governor Walker signed $117 million in corporate tax breaks. Wisconsin’s immediate budge shortfall is $137 million. That’s his pretext for socking it to Wisconsin’s public unions. Nationally, you remember, Republicans demanded and received an extension of the Bush tax cuts for the rich. They’ve made it clear they’re intent on extending them for the next ten years, at a cost of $900 billion. They’ve also led the way on cutting the estate tax, and on protecting Wall Street private equity and hedge-fund managers whose earnings are taxed at the capital gains rate of 15 percent. And the last thing they’d tolerate is an increase in the top marginal tax rate on the super-rich. Meanwhile, of course, more and more of the nation’s income and wealth has been concentrating at the top. In the late 1970s, the top 1 percent got 9 percent of total income. Now it gets more than 20 percent. So the problem isn’t that “we’ve” been spending too much. It’s that most Americans have been getting a steadily smaller share of the nation’s total income. AlterNet's David Rosen follows up in Notorious Pro-Corporate Group ALEC's Hidden Role in Stoking Class War in Wisconsin and the Rest of America The current anti-union campaign being implemented in Wisconsin and other states has the fingerprints of the American Legislative Executive Council (ALEC) all over it. ... If you think the battle over labor rights now being fought out in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee and other states is purely a matter of coincidence or budget shortfalls, I've got a bridge to sell you. The Wisconsin showdown is a result of an economic crisis precipitated by bankers, financial speculators and intentionally inept regulators. In line with Naomi Klein's argument in The Shock Doctrine, America's Great Recession served to destabilize the nation's economy so as to facilitate the systematic expropriation of the personal and social wealth of the middle-class. The effort by Wisconsin citizens opposing Gov. Walker's anti-labor campaign is an attempt to halt this ongoing plunder. ... Republican forces are collaborating in the massive robbery of the collective wealth and precious self-esteem amassed by the America middle-class since it took shape following World War II. And ALEC is at the center of this political campaign. Its programs fashion the legislative agenda of class robbery that defines American politics today. ... Fortune reported that during the 2009 legislative session, ALEC developed 826 state bills and 115 of them were made into law. (In 2010, the GOP picked up more than 700 seats in state legislatures and now controls 25 state legislatures, up from 14.) According to Edwin Bender, executive director, National Institute on Money in State Politics, "Corporations can implement their agendas very effectively using ALEC." Tyler Durden of zerohedge reports (h/t msgeaux) Brent Passes $110 A $10 move in a week is just what the doctor ordered to destroy the last trace of surreality in the whole "economic recovery" story. At this rate we will take out all time high crude prices by mid March. As we have been saying since December, a rapid move in oil will undo years of carefully planned propaganda and money printing. Yet the weakness that "nobody could have possibly predicted" is just as we had forecast: global and US weakness in late February/March, market swoons in March/April (as per DeMark's repeat appearance), Fed releases early indications of QE3 in May. In the meantime, we also get a war as a bonus to boost the US military-defense industrial complex. Pretty much a rerun of the first great depression to the dot. AND Half Of Libyan Oil Production, Or 800,000 Barrels, Now Offline Traders added that Libya’s national oil company had declared force majeure – a legal clause allowing it to default on contracted deliveries – on contracts to export oil products. In addition, most of the country’s ports remain closed.Lastly, expectations that OPEC can just step in and fill the void are largely unfounded, not in the least since peak OPEC output is likely vastly exaggerated. "Without information on the scale and duration of any disruption, Opec cannot accurately gauge how much additional crude to produce. A release stocks by the IEA may meet market needs more closely," Mr Eagles, former head of oil markets at the IEA, said in a note to clients. Look for Brent to continue on its path to $120 over the next week, bringing it ever closer to its all time highs just over $140. Make that $140 if the US does, as some speculate, invade the region to bring "peace and stability" to the region. Press TV has an interview with Danny Schecter of Mediachannel.org: 'Foreign military intervention in Libya' SCHECTER: The western countries are meeting to discuss various approaches and options, including military options. Fidel Castro has warned over possible military intervention. The US president's former chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, who was just elected mayor of Chicago, is famous for having said that "good crisis is a terrible thing to waste." And there is an opportunity here that foreign western powers like NATO and United States to intervene eligibly on humanitarian basis, but actually to try to cease the oil or to get control of the oil in Libya. The BTV Crew recommends Tomgram: Engelhardt, Washington's Echo Chamber , Matt Stoller: The Liquidation of Society versus the Global Labor Revival, Rothschilds Stage Revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt To Kill Islamic Banks In Emerging North African Markets and Paul Krugman's Shock Doctrine, U.S.A. The story of the privatization-obsessed Coalition Provisional Authority was the centerpiece of Naomi Klein’s best-selling book "The Shock Doctrine" which argued that it was part of a broader pattern. From Chile in the 1970s onward, she suggested, right-wing ideologues have exploited crises to push through an agenda that has nothing to do with resolving those crises, and everything to do with imposing their vision of a harsher, more unequal, less democratic society. Which brings us to Wisconsin 2011, where the shock doctrine is on full display. In recent weeks, Madison has been the scene of large demonstrations against the governor’s budget bill, which would deny collective-bargaining rights to public-sector workers. Gov. Scott Walker claims that he needs to pass his bill to deal with the state’s fiscal problems. But his attack on unions has nothing to do with the budget. In fact, those unions have already indicated their willingness to make substantial financial concessions — an offer the governor has rejected. What’s happening in Wisconsin is, instead, a power grab — an attempt to exploit the fiscal crisis to destroy the last major counterweight to the political power of corporations and the wealthy. And the power grab goes beyond union-busting. The bill in question is 144 pages long, and there are some extraordinary things hidden deep inside Be sure to watch Max Keiser Report #124 with Glenn Greenwald and the Laurence Lessig video below along with MATT TAIBBI on DN! and an interview with Rolling Stone's MICHAEL HASTINGS at AntiWar.com discussing his latest article Another Runaway General: Army Deploys Psy-Ops on U.S. Senators. BRAD FRIEDMAN & VELVET REVOLUTION!Investigate Chamber Of Commerce Spying On Reporters And NGOs I call on Congress and the Department of Justice to investigate the Chamber of Commerce law firm, Hunton & Williams, for conspiring with three private security firms to create a multimillion dollar intelligence operation to destroy www.StopTheChamber.com, Velvet Revolution and it staff, including journalist Brad Friedman, along with SEIU, reporter Glenn Greenwald, Change to Win and ChamberWatch. This planned attack included planting false documents, creating disinformation, spying on the group's operation, cyberstalking, and defamation. It is unconstitutional and undemocratic for firms acting on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce to engage in domestic spying with the intent to destroy reporters and non profit organizations. Congress should hold hearings to get to the bottom of this, and the Department of Justice should prosecute all those involved. Sign petition now!

Arabian revolutions and busted narratives by maxkeiser MK: Some things that become clear since the revolt in Tunisia. Peaceful revolutions, in the style of Gandhi, are possible and practical ways of overthrowing corrupt tyrants today. America’s narrative about Islam and Muslims – of an inherently violent culture – is wrong and racist (yes, Bill Maher you are a racist). Arabs that have revolted against their occupying dictators have succeeded where the attempts at democracy and dignity in Wisconsin have so far failed. America’s accepted wisdom and narrative about Iran is equally wrong. Here in Lebanon, reading all the local press, I notice that not a single article or comment by anyone in the entire region has appeared that is lumping Iran in with the monarchs and dictatorships of the countries now undergoing regime change. America’s view of the region is written by Israel. Israel doesn’t like Iran because it has been a successful Muslim democracy and continues to be (by current U.S. standards when comparing to Mullah Obama and America’s evangelical neo-liberal theocracy) – thus cutting into their narrative about the need to commit holocaust in Palestine – to make room to build more condos – in the name of some schmuck they choose to call God. Speaking of schmucks, Rahm Emmanuel become mayor of Chicago on Tuesday, Barack Obama awarded a 35 billion dollar contract to Chicago’s Boeing Corp. on Thursday. Boeing makes weapons of mass destruction – to kill who? Enemies according to Israel. America is running out of fake enemies abroad. Living in the U.S. is not safe. Living in Chicago is really not safe. Anyone care to bet that the next 9/11 goes down in Chicago? How does President Rahm Emmanuel sound.

First Anonymous speaks: the inside story of the HBGary hack by Peter Bright ARS Techinca: "Over the last week, I've talked to some of those who participated in the HBGary hack to learn in detail how they penetrated HBGary's defenses and gave the company such a stunning black eye—and what the HBGary example means for the rest of us mere mortals who use the Internet." It's kind of tech-speaky but slog through to the punchline on pg. 3. Next Nate Anderson also from Ars Technica writes for Wired.com Spy Games: Inside the Convoluted Plot to Bring Down WikiLeaks - Profile on Aaron Barr of HBGary Federal. At FireDogLake.com emptywheel digs deeper in The HBGary Scandal: Using Counterterrorism Tactics on Citizen Activism: "In this post, I’ll begin to show the close ties between the tactics HBGary’s Aaron Barr proposed to use against Wikileaks and anti-Chamber activists and those already used in counterterrorism." One of the Chamber campaign's targets Glenn Greenwald has More facts emerge about the leaked smear campaigns with an interview with Sam Seder and also on the Dylan Ratigan show. Also Brad Friedman discusses the smear campaign with Bob Kincaid on Head On with Bob Kincaid Hour 2 of Wednesday's show (mp3). Matt Osborne of CrooksAndLairs chimes in with "Mr. President, the Anonymous Hacktivists Have a Low Orbit Ion Cannon": "To me, the real story on HBGary Federal is the ease with which the security consultancy was hacked and exposed. The company's sinister proposals -- using fake documents to attack enemies of the Chamber of Commerce, outing members of Anonymous, and targeting Glenn Greenwald's career -- seem all the more craven and stark against the incredible incompetence of HBGary executive staff. Peter Bright interviewed members of Anonymous, the hacktivist social network behind WikiLeaks, for Ars Technica..." We urge you to dig into all these detailed stories and pass them along to your lists, etc. Looking back at the run-up to the Iraq Invasion our own intrepid ljm pens "Colin Powell can't understand why the CIA didn't warn him about Curveball's lies. Which part of 'Bush/Cheney wanted to have a war on Iraq no matter what' doesn't he get?" Colin Powell demands answers over Curveball's WMD lies. "Meanwhile, Germany says Curveball could face jail in Germany for his lies and btw, why did Germany pay him 2,500 pounds a month for five years after the lie? Could it have been STFU money?" Curveball could face jail for warmongering, says German MP. Hmmmmmmm. Turning to DEMOCRACY AT HOME John Nichols of The Nation reports LIVE from Madison, Wisconsin: Tens of Thousands Protest Move by Wisconsin's Governor to Destroy Public Sector Unions Signs at Tuesday’s rally — which the AFL-CIO said attracted a crowd of 15,000 and which news outlets broadly reported drew more 10,000 state and local employees and their backers— referred to the governor as “Hosni Walker” and declared: “Protest Like an Egyptian.”Another asked: “If Egypt Can Have Democracy, Why Can’t Wisconsin?” John Nichols is in Madison Wisconsin covering the protests there so go to his blog at The Nation for the latest updates at The Beat. digby tells us why this is happening Cheese and Koch (h/t jen): "AlterNet recently reported the role of Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and Americans For Prosperity in a vote-caging scheme apparently designed to suppress the votes of African-Americans and college students in Milwaukee." That would be Priebus' Republican National Committee: A Wholly Owned Subsidiary of Koch's Americans for Prosperity? The new RNC chair Reince Priebus, implicated in Americans for Prosperity's voter-caging scandal, carried a lot of water for the Koch-led group in Wisconsin. Now he's rewarded. THEN Ray McGovern went to see the U.S. Secretary of State at George Washington U. in DC for Openness Online: Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton speaks at GW about the importance of international Internet freedom. As Hillary Talks About Tolerating Free Expression, Police in Front of Her Brutalize Ray McGovern for Turning His Back As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave her speech at George Washington University yesterday condemning governments that arrest protestors and do not allow free expression, 71-year-old Ray McGovern was grabbed from the audience in plain view of her by police and an unidentified official in plain clothes, brutalized and left bleeding in jail. She never paused speaking. When Secretary Clinton began her speech, Mr. McGovern remained standing silently in the audience and turned his back. Mr. McGovern, a veteran Army officer who also worked as a C.I.A. analyst for 27 years, was wearing a Veterans for Peace t-shirt. Blind-sided by security officers who pounced upon him, Mr. McGovern remarked, as he was hauled out the door, "So this is America?" Mr. McGovern is covered with bruises, lacerations and contusions inflicted in the assault. Mr. McGovern is being represented by the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF). "It is the ultimate definition of lip service that Secretary of State Clinton would be trumpeting the U.S. government's supposed concerns for free speech rights and this man would be simultaneously brutalized and arrested for engaging in a peaceful act of dissent at her speech," stated attorney Mara Verheyden-Hilliard of the PCJF. SHE NEVER PAUSED SPEAKING.* MORE PROTESTS are still happening in the Middle East, too! IRAQ Police Fire on Protesters in Iraq @ nyt; IRAN Iran opposition protests, agency reports shooting @ reuters; Protests continue in Yemen, Algeria and Morocco as strikes banned in Egypt @ independent.co.uk; Bahrain protesters reoccupy square, while Libya protests continue @ csmonitor.com. Of course the Sunday Talkies will maintain the Beltway Village Mentality of all this starting with SoS HILLARY CLINTON on This Anampout, fresh off her talk on Free Speech where Ray McGovern was brutalized right in front of her.

This Week on Ring of Fire! February 18, 2010
    • Stepping into the Ring of Fire this week: we’ll be taking a closer look at the US Chamber of Commerce’s crusade to discredit and destroy liberal activists – investigative journalist Lee Fang will tell us how the Chamber is carrying out this mission.
    • Author Mark Schmitt will be joining us to talk about why the Democrats are so torn over what to do about the South – with no hope of winning big victories in Dixie, there really aren’t many options.
    • Political satirist Matt Filipowicz will be here to tell us about the Tea Party-backed laws that states all over America are putting into effect – laws that do everything from mandating gun ownership to forcing teachers to question evolution in their classrooms.
    • And we’ll be discussing the dangers of the birth control blockbuster drug Yaz with attorney Ned McWilliams.
    • You Can Listen to Ring of Fire on These Stations HERE.
    • VIDEO! Papantonio: The Chamber of Commerce is Spying on YOU Recently, president Obama met with the US Chamber of Commerce to talk about the best way to create jobs in America. He told them that it was their patriotic duty to spend the trillions of dollars of cash reserves that they’re sitting on and create jobs. In the same breath, he told them that it was his duty to make sure that the government did everything possible to make businesses more comfortable and ensure that they have the perfect climate to rebuild our economy. And the whole time that Obama was trying to become best friends with the Chamber-types, they were carrying out a secret campaign to infiltrate, discredit, and destroy liberal activist groups. Mike Papantonio discusses the Chamber’s secret plot against progressives with Lee Fang, an investigative journalist with Think Progress who helped break the story on the Chamber.
    • VIDEO! Papantonio: Big Pharma’s Lies Caused Yaz Birth Control Deaths When politicians get caught blatantly lying to the American public, it will usually destroy their image, possibly even their career. But when corporations do the same thing, the public doesn’t seem to care at all. This is the case with Bayer Pharmaceuticals who have lied to the American public about the dangers of their blockbuster birth control pill Yaz, which has caused all sorts of serious problems for consumers, including several deaths. Not only did Bayer mislead the public about these dangers, but they failed to do the necessary testing to make sure these drugs wouldn’t harm their customers. Mike Papantonio discusses Yaz with Ned McWilliams, one of the attorneys who is working to hold Bayer accountable for their negligence

Global Currency Coming . . . And Gold’s a part of it by maxkeiser MK: The new world currency will be backed in part by Gold . . . If the new world currency is backed by even 10% Gold that’s an easy $3,000 for Gold. The experiment of 1971, a world of free floating currencies, has failed. We’re going back to some form of pre-1971 model. The G20 wants to ‘recapitalize’ the global economy with a new 100 tr. credit facility. It’ll be based on growing and rebranding SDR’s. And this new global currency, administered by a global central bank will be backed, in part, by Gold. $3,000 assumes ultra-smooth cooperation amongst all interested parties. Since there is no one country in a similar position to where U.S. was in 1945 and that the process will be rocky with very little trust amongst the primary participants. A higher Gold ratio in the new SDR will no doubt be the solution. So yea, now we’re talking about something closer to $10,000 on Gold as the ‘reality adjusted’ target. This interview is excerpted from the KPFK 90.7 FM Los Angeles broadcast of February 18th. The original is available HERE (mp3)
Joe Lauria February 18, 2011: Independent investigative journalist Joe Lauria discusses – live from Cairo – the throng of Egyptians re-filling Tahrir Square in celebration of Hosni Mubarak’s resignation; how Egypt’s constitutional reforms could be an early source of division among the protesters; the duplicitous post-WWII US foreign policy of supporting dictators while talking about “exporting democracy;” how Egypt’s broad-based and peaceful revolution undermines the terrorism and religious extremism of al-Qaeda; and how the protests in Bahrain put the Obama administration in a bind: whether to support a brutal monarchy or give up a crucial naval base.

ALL LINKS OPEN A NEW WINDOW!!!

EGYPT BREAKS THROUGH After 18 days of protests, over 300 lives lost and thousands injured, an internet blackout and several speeches imploring the protesters to go home by Mubarak it all ended with by vice president Omar Suleiman on national television Friday saying, "Citizens, during these very difficult circumstances that Egypt is going through, president Hosni Mubarak has decided to step down as the president of the republic and has entrusted the High Council of the Armed Forces to carry out the dealing of the country." As the Guardian UK explains in Egypt celebrates as Mubarak era ends There was jubilation in Cairo's Tahrir Square seconds after the news broke, while many simply sobbed for joy. ... The military says the cabinet will be sacked, the parliament suspended and they will work with the judges of the Supreme Court to amend the constitution to allow for fair and free elections currently scheduled for September. There was a note of caution in the background, however, over how far the military under field marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, Mr Mubarak's veteran defence minister, is ready to permit a democracy, especially since the hitherto banned Islamist Muslim Brotherhood is one of the best-organised forces. ... In a statement, the military council said it would take measures for an interim phase and hoped to realise people's hopes. Striking the even-handed note the military has maintained throughout the crisis, it praised Mr Mubarak for resigning "in the interests of the nation" and the "martyrs" who died protesting. Now that the top brass in the Egyptian military have now taken over until new elections can be held in the coming months Shashank Joshi points out at the BBC Viewpoint: Too early to celebrate in Egypt? Moreover, if a future government seeks to chart an independent policy towards Israel or Hamas, the military will be loath to jeopardise its flow of US aid. This could prompt a Pakistan-like situation in which elected leaders are stripped of control over foreign policy. The man now at the apex of Egypt is Defence Minister Mohamed Tantawi. He embodies the reactionary forces still embedded at the heart of a regime that may have shed its figurehead but not its essence. Field Marshal Tantawi is known by junior officers as "Mubarak's poodle". According to Wikileaks cables, he has resolutely "opposed both economic and political reforms that he perceives as eroding central government power" - hardly such stuff as revolutions are made on. There is every possibility that he will simply rebuild the apparatus of autocracy by dispersing superficial powers to a fractured opposition, while restoring the army to its Cold War standing. Some optimists have invoked the "Turkish model" for Egypt, but recall that the Turkish army has toppled four governments since 1960 and still lurks just under the surface of that country's democratic institutions. ...Finally, even if the military hands over power to a broad-based opposition committee and steers through far-reaching reforms, the path to democracy is strewn with traps. ...Demands to increase food subsidies will combine with extended disruption to tourism. If the government cannot pay workers and ensure social welfare, it is likely to be anti-democratic forces that are the beneficiaries of a backlash. Guardian UK warns the Middle East braces for more protest after Mubarak resigns citing Algeria, Lebanon, Gaza and Jordon among other autocratic nations that are already seeing popular protests. Much more coverage below at Democracy Now! below. In other news it seems ThinkProgress has gotten under the skin of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce EXCLUSIVE: US Chamber’s Lobbyists Solicited Hackers To Sabotage Unions, Smear Chamber’s Political Opponents According to e-mails obtained by ThinkProgress, the Chamber hired the lobbying firm Hunton and Williams. Hunton And Williams’ attorney Richard Wyatt, who once represented Food Lion in its infamous lawsuit against ABC News, was hired by the Chamber in October of last year. To assist the Chamber, Wyatt and his associates, John Woods and Bob Quackenboss, solicited a set of private security firms — HBGary Federal, Palantir, and Berico Technologies (collectively called Team Themis) — to develop tactics for damaging progressive groups and labor unions, in particular ThinkProgress, the labor coalition called Change to Win, the SEIU, US Chamber Watch, and StopTheChamber.com. StopTheChamber.com was created by famous Election Protection advocate BRAD FRIEDMAN of BradBlog.com who is also co-founder of VelvetRevolution.us. Friedman responds HERE explaining, "Yes, they do target and name ME and my family, including personal details about us specifically, as part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's disinformation attack, as ThinkProgress notes in an update tonight: Another target was Brad Friedman, co-founder of The Brad Blog. Barr’s profile of Friedman included information about his life partner and his home address. See TP's most recent article for some of the emails, etc. These are horrible people. Glenn Greenwald, who was also targeted to the Chamber's disinformation smear campaign fired back in his Salon column The leaked campaign to attack WikiLeaks and its supporters: One section of the leaked report focused on attacking WikiLeaks' supporters and it featured a discussion of me. A graph purporting to be an "organizational chart" identified several other targets, including former New York Times reporter Jennifer 8 Lee, Guardian reporter James Ball, and Manning supporter David House. The report claimed I was "critical" to WikiLeaks' public support after its website was removed by Amazon and that "it is this level of support that needs to be disrupted"; absurdly speculated that "without the support of people like Glenn, WikiLeaks would fold"; and darkly suggested that "these are established professionals that have a liberal bent, but ultimately most of them if pushed will choose professional preservation over cause." ... My initial reaction to all of this was to scoff at its absurdity. ...But after learning a lot more over the last couple of days, I now take this more seriously -- not in terms of my involvement but the broader implications this story highlights. For one thing, it turns out that the firms involved here are large, legitimate and serious, and do substantial amounts of work for both the U.S. Government and the nation's largest private corporations (as but one example, see this email from a Stanford computer science student about Palantir). Moreover, these kinds of smear campaigns are far from unusual; in other leaked HB Gary emails, ThinkProgress discovered that similar proposals were prepared for the Chamber of Commerce to attack progressive groups and other activists (including ThinkProgress). And perhaps most disturbing of all, Hunton & Williams was recommended to Bank of America's General Counsel by the Justice Department -- meaning the U.S. Government is aiding Bank of America in its defense against/attacks on WikiLeaks. ...But the real issue highlighted by this episode is just how lawless and unrestrained is the unified axis of government and corporate power. ...That's what this anti-WikiLeaks campaign is generally: it's a concerted, unified effort between government and the most powerful entities in the private sector (Bank of America is the largest bank in the nation). Much more in Greenwald's post - required reading! Also check the link below in the Green News Report for Brad hosting last Thursday's Mike Malloy Show for his live on-air reaction. Of course the Sunday Talking Heads will mention none of this as they are in the "Egypt" What about me?" mode trying to figure out how the Egyptians new-found small "d" democracy will pan out and affect the ever-popular "U.S. Interests in the region" namely the Suez Canal, Israel and OIL. Your best bet for Beltway Bubalas may be on Face the Bob with an all-Egypt guest list of Egyptian Nobel Laureates MOHAMED ELBARADEI & AHMED ZEWAIL plus Egyptian Ambassador to the U.S. SAMEH SHOUKRY (how did JOHN "Crazy Train" MCCAIN get invited?). True to form THIS ANAMPOUT gets Israel Defense Minister EHUD BARAK and a host of "former" this-n-thats and navel gazers plus ARIANNA "AOL" HUFFINGTON offers GEORGE WILL column space on HuffPo. Meet the David looks equally uninspiring with Weeper of the House JOHN "Crybaby" BOEHNER, a bunch of "formers" and DEE DEE MYERS offers her lipstick to DAVID BROOKS. Save your bricks for JOHN "Death Squad" NEGROPONTE on State of the Candy. Can anybody guess who's missing from the Sunday shows? We'll wait. Take your time. TIME'S UP! Yes not ONE rep from the WH Limo gang! The view here is they're all still trying to wipe all that egg off their collective faces for their continuing calls for "stability in the region" not wanting to piss off the Pharoh Mubarak by siding with REAL democratic reforms that the thousands in Tahrir Square demanded and put their lives on the line for. As Noam Chomsky pointed out on DN! last week, "Nevertheless, the conclusion here, and in England and the continent, was it’s all wonderful. The dictators support us. We can disregard the population, because they’re quiet. As long as they’re quiet, who cares? People don’t matter. Actually, there’s an analog of that internal to the United States. And it’s of course the same policy elsewhere in the world. All of that reveals a contempt for democracy and for public opinion which is really profound. And one has to listen with jaws dropping when Obama, in the clip you ran, talks about how, of course, governments depend on the people. Our policy is the exact opposite." Indeed. The Brick TeeVee Crew took in the lowly CAVS 119-126 victory over the LA Clippers in OT to end their dismal record-setting 26-game losing streak (in between excellent LIVE AJE Egypt coverage on FSTV & LINK TV). But the OSU Buckeyes perch atop the rankings is in jeopardy suffering their first loss of the season to #13 Wisconsin. Qualifying for the Daytona 500 is now set for Sunday afternoon at 1 pm et and MLB pitchers and catchers start reporting to Arizona and Florida on Monday Feb. 14. Spring is in the air! Enjoy your week!

Papantonio: Lobbyists Already Control New GOP Congressmen The Tea Party helped put several new Republicans in seats of power in the US Congress last year, falsely believing that people like Rand Paul would not follow the status quo, and would not be influenced by lobbyists. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Tea Party was dead wrong, and their darling representatives have been busy hiring lobbyists to actually run their congressional offices. In addition to these lobbyists, we have people like David Koch pulling the strings on these new congressmen from behind the scenes. Mike Papantonio talks about the incestuous relationship between these lobbyists, billionaires, and Republicans with Lee Fang, an investigative journalist with Think Progress.org.

But all of their lobbying and all of their money won’t keep filmmaker Josh Fox silent, and he joined Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. recently to discuss his Oscar-nominated film.

US diplomat convinced by Saudi expert that reserves of world’s biggest oil exporter have been overstated by nearly 40% by maxkeiser As we said in our Al Jazeera English film 3 years ago, Saudi Arabia has been lying BIG TIME about their reserves. I bet you if Mubarak had just handed power over immediately when the US administration told him to, none of his assets would have been seized. (I’m sure justice was so swift this time because of Mubarak’s speech last night in which he promised again to stay on until September . . . only an hour or two after Leon Panetta had briefed the press that Mubarak would be stepping down. This is poppycock that has about as much relevance as L. Ron Hubbard. If the the US entrepreneurial class followed this tripe we would have no P2P, Linux, Open Source, iTunes, Google, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Wikipedia, Wikileaks, DemocracyNow.org, NASA, a triumph in WWII, or the NFL (and the Super Bowl). All of which rely on collectivist ararchism, not isolationism. This movie is like, 50 years out of date. It's the philosophy of a weenie waving America from the 50's that liked to invade other countries with fiat money and call it 'soft imperialism' and sell them soft ice cream and soft porn (like Taylor Swift in this movie). Eric Margolis February 10, 2011: Eric Margolis, foreign correspondent and author of War at the Top of the World and American Raj, discusses how Egypt is becoming yet another foreign policy humiliation for Obama; the Israeli government’s uncharacteristically sloppy PR on Egypt – rallying to support an unpopular Arab dictator; how the Obama administration is trying to walk a tightrope between acknowledging the human rights abuses in Egypt and ignoring the 40 or so years of US support for those same abuses; and why deposing the Egyptian government, relied on economically by almost everyone in the country, will require a broader revolution or the army’s support.
