The Brick TeeVee Crew's ears pricked up immediately when they heard the words "safe, clean nuclear power plants" and "clean coal". We felt like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day! We heard this speech before! We thought we were hallucinating but others noticed too. Harvey Wasserman reports "When Obama endorsed "safe, clean nuclear power plants" and "clean coal" in this year's State of the Union, more than 10,000 MoveOn.org members slammed that as the worst moment of the speech." . Wasserman lays out in Will Obama guarantee a new reactor war? (FreePress.org 1-30-10) Amidst utter chaos in the atomic reactor industry, Team Obama is poised to vastly expand a bitterly contested loan guarantee program that may cost far more than expected, both financially and politically. The long-stalled, much-hyped "Renaissance" in atomic power has failed to find private financing. New construction projects are opposed for financial reasons by fiscal conservatives such as the Heritage Foundation and National Taxpayers Union, and by a national grassroots safe energy campaign that has already beaten such loan guarantees three times. New reactor designs are being challenged by regulators in both the US and Europe. Key projects, new and old, are engulfed in political/financial uproars in Florida, Texas, Maryland, Vermont, New Jersey and elsewhere. And 53 years after the opening of the first commercial reactor at Shippingport, Pennsylvania, Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu is now convening a "Blue Ribbon" commission on managing radioactive waste, for which the industry still has no solution. Though stacked with reactor advocates, the commission may certify the death certificate for Nevada's failed Yucca Mountain dump. Nuclear Waste Pools in North Carolina: The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has estimated that there is a 1:100 chance of pool fire happening under the best of scenarios. And the dossier on the Shearon Harris plant is far from the best. Congressman David Price of North Carolina sent the NRC a report by scientists at MIT and Princeton that pinpointed the waste pools as the biggest risk at the plant. “Spent fuel recently discharged from a reactor could heat up relatively rapidly and catch fire,” wrote Bob Alvarez, a former advisor to the Department of Energy and co-author of the report. “The fire could well spread to older fuel. The long-term land contamination consequences of such an event could be significantly worse than Chernobyl.” . Don't EVEN get us started on the myth of "clean coal". So THROW BRICKS at MCCONNELL, HATCH, SHELBY, DEMENTED, JOHN "Crazy Train" MCCAIN and all the other obvious targets. The WH used Public Tranz for Valerie Jarrett (Meet the David), David Axelrod (State of King) and Bob Gibbs (Fake Snooz). The WH Limo must be "in da shop". Funniest thing the Brick TeeVee Crew heard this week was NEWT "Contract ON America" Gingrich on NPR saying, "I'm saying that it allows you to have a middle-class candidate go out and find allies and supporters who are able to help them match the rich." HAHAHAHA! Wot a MORAN! And half of America is gonna BELIEVE this guy. “Well, Doctor, what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?” Benjamin Franklin quipped, “A Republic, if you can keep it.” Not looking good, BTV readers.

Richard Green and staff Air America Statement April 2004 – January 2010 Morning Sedition, Marc Maron, Sam Seder, Jeanine Garafolo, Randi Rhodes, Al Franken, Mike Malloy, Thom Hartmann, Rachel Maddow, Jon Eliot and many more on-air talent, their guests and their diligent staffs brought serious issues to light every day and became the FIRST MAJOR RADIO NETWORK to combat Corporomedia since the elimination of the "Fairness Doctrine" and the passage of the 1996 Telecommunications Act that consolidated much of the public airwaves into the hands of a very few media conglomerates. Some are still on-air, others not so much. Air America even spawned a Senator and an MSNBC host. Despite their continual mismanagement and financial troubles Air America reshaped political dialogue (even with a lineup of Lionel, Ron Reagan and Montell Williams) and attracted a dedicated liberal listenership, even with crappy 5 KW AM signals that barely reached a tenth of the audience CorporoMedia gets with their CorporoHacks on just about every channel in just about every market. Air America ENGAGED listeners to get involved, resulting in part the Dem wins in 2006 and 2008. We at Brick TeeVee mourn the loss of Air America but understand the deck was stacked against them by the Corporatists, who just cannot allow alternate views of anything, anywhere. Good-bye Air America. Your voices will be missed but OUR VOICES WILL NOT BE SILENCED.

A stunning new article in the journal Science should once and for all kill the myth of “clean coal.” The 11-author study, “Mountaintop Mining Consequences” (subs. req’d) on mountaintop mining with valley fills (MTM/VF) is an analysis of “current peer-reviewed studies and of new water-quality data from WV [West Virigina] streams.”

What he has made little mention of is that the Chertoff Group, his security consulting agency, includes a client that manufactures the machines. The relationship drew attention after Chertoff disclosed it on a CNN program Wednesday, in response to a question..."Mr. Chertoff should not be allowed to abuse the trust the public has placed in him as a former public servant to privately gain from the sale of full-body scanners under the pretense that the scanners would have detected this particular type of explosive," said Kate Hanni, founder of FlyersRights.org, which opposes the use of the scanners. And yet, in the same newspaper, on the same day, in the same section, none other than Michael Chertoff has a 736-word op-ed calling for the expansion of whole-body-imaging technology at airports, and dismissing skeptics as "privacy ideologues." William Engdahl, Global Research, 2009 reports in European Parliament to Investigate WHO and “Pandemic” Scandal © globalresearch.ca The Council of Europe member states will launch an inquiry in January 2010 on the influence of the pharmaceutical companies on the global swine flu campaign, focusing especially on extent of the pharma‘s industry’s influence on WHO...The parliament motion was introduced by Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg, former SPD Member of the German Bundestag and now Chairman of the European Parliament Health Committee.
