WASHINGTON — Cue the hues for the Great Emancipator.

A new $5 bill, with splashes of color surrounding Abraham Lincoln will go into circulation March 13, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and the Federal Reserve announced today.

WHOOOOAAAA! Now WAIT A MINUTE! The Bureau of Engraving and PRINTING?
Who are THEY?

They are the Money Factory.
No, really. REALLY!
It's right out there in front of our noses too.
the url is
And they BRAG about it, too.

wiki says

The United States Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is a government agency in the United States Department of the Treasury that primarily prints Federal Reserve notes for the Federal Reserve, but also produces a variety of other government security documents.

How can the BEP have time to print "new" money when they've been printing $US NON-STOP for months? years? flooding the market thereby DEVALUING the $US while REAL INFLATION runs rampant here?

Q: Who runs the United States Department of the Treasury?
A: The Treasurer of the United States and the Secretarty of of the Treasury.
(Look at any paper money you have right now for names and dates.
And check out those same names and dates on your very first Purple Abe, too)

I checked the US Mint site. Nuthin'. Why?
The U.S. Constitution - Article 1 Section 8 states:

To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures;

In case you missed it: To COIN Money.
Nothing about PRINTING money!

Back to HouChron...

The new bill still will have a portrait of the 16th president on one side and the Lincoln Memorial on the other. But it also will feature purple and gray colors and other high-tech changes designed to make life more difficult for counterfeiters.

Originally the $5 bill was not going to be redesigned. But that decision was reversed once counterfeiters began bleaching $5 notes and printing fake $100 bills with the bleached paper to take advantage of the fact that some of the
security features were in the same locations on both bills.

To thwart those efforts, the government is changing the $5 watermark from one of Lincoln to two separate watermarks featuring the numeral 5. The $100 bill has a watermark with the image of Benjamin Franklin.

What will a Purple Abe get you?

  • 1 doz eggs, loaf of bread, 1/2 gal milk (sorry, kids, no cereal0
  • 1 gal gas (coming to a station near you soon!)
  • 1 adult beverage at any national chain restaurant

You get the idea.

Don't forget the US Mint's New $1 Presidential Coin Series! (psssst. They're NOT gold! Go for The Silver)

Uh, now what about that sub-prime mortgage thing again?

Well, MAYBE NOT with our money (certainly not the Focus on the Family/700 Club/Liberty University God).

I read somewhere that one of the first signs of a banana republic is when their money has colors. Hmmmmm.

WEB OF DEBT: The Shocking Truth About Our Money System -- The Sleight of Hand That Has Trapped Us in Debt and How We Can Break Free (Paperback)
by Ellen Hodgson Brown Third Millennium Press (July 25, 2007)

This book exposes important, often obscured truths about our money system and our economic past and future. Our money is not what we have been led to believe. The creation of money has been privatized -- taken over by a private money cartel. It is all done by sleight of hand, concealed by economic double-speak. "Web of Debt" unravels the deception and presents a crystal clear picture of the financial abyss towards which we are heading, pointing out all the signposts. Then it explores a workable alternative, one that was tested in colonial America and is grounded in the best of American economic thought, including the writings of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln. If you care about financial security, your own or the nation's, you should read this book.
