Groundhog Football It's Groundhog Day and Super Bowl Sunday at the same time! Famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil will "predict" if we'll see an early spring or six more weeks of climate-change induced severe Winter weather. Word on the streets of Punxsutawney PA sez Phil is also leaning toward taking the points and the Seahawks with a nod to the parlay "over" too. February 2nd is also Imbolc marking half-way between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. Imbolc is mentioned in some of the earliest Irish literature and there is evidence it has been an important date since ancient times. It is believed that it was originally a pagan festival associated with the goddess Brighid and that it was Christianized as a festival of Saint Brighid, who herself is thought to be a Christianization of the goddess. ........ The date of Imbolc is thought to have been significant in Ireland since the Neolithic period. This is based on the alignment of some Megalithic monuments. For example, at the Mound of the Hostages on the Hill of Tara, the inner chamber is aligned with the rising sun on the dates of Imbolc and Samhain. In the meantime visit all our regulars!
