ALL LINKS OPEN A NEW WINDOW!!!

FALL BACK AMERICA Yes it's time to FALL BACK ONE HOUR to go back to Standard Time! And if we learned anything from Tuesday's Midterms is that American Voters can't remember what happened yesterday, much less last month, last year or the entirety of the Bu$h/GOPher years of the past decade. In the words of President Not Sure the Dems "took a shellacking". His solution? "I think there are going to be a whole bunch of areas where we can agree on." Meanwhile Professional Curmudgeon MITCH MCCONNELL says "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president." It looks more like McConnell and his crew want America to fall back, not just one hour today, but maybe to the late 19th Century's Gilded Age of Robber Barons. The lame duck's first order of business should be to do NOTHING and let the Bu$h Tax Cuts for the Wealthy just expire, then sneak through the same reconciliation process preserving the rest of the tax cut package. As pointed out by NYT's Nicholas Kristoff in Our Banana Republic The richest 1 percent of Americans now take home almost 24 percent of income, up from almost 9 percent in 1976. As Timothy Noah of Slate noted in an excellent series on inequality, the United States now arguably has a more unequal distribution of wealth than traditional banana republics like Nicaragua, Venezuela and Guyana. So it's not like the rich need to get richer, yes? But of course they do! We point you to a speech by Bill Moyers: "Welcome to the Plutocracy!" at Boston University on October 29, 2010, as a part of the Howard Zinn Lecture Series: In polite circles, among our political and financial classes, this is known as “the free market at work.” No, it’s “wage repression,” and it’s been happening in our country since around 1980...Since 1980 the economy has also continued to grow handsomely, but only a fraction at the top have benefited. The line flattens for the bottom 90% of Americans. Average income went from that $30,941 in 1980 to $31,244 in 2008. Think about that: the average income of Americans increased just $303 dollars in 28 years. That’s wage repression...If this were a functioning democracy, our financial institutions would be helping everyday Americans and businesses get the mortgages and loans – the capital – they need to keep going; they’re not, even as the financiers are reaping robust awards. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. But he’s run off with all the toys....That fraction of one percent of Americans who now earn as much as the bottom 120 million Americans includes the top executives of giant corporations and those Wall Street hedge funds and private equity managers who constitute Citigroup’s “plutonomy” are buying our democracy and they’re doing it in secret. We urge you to read the entire speech! Don't expect this sort of candor on the bought-n-paid-for Beltway Bubbleheads on Sunday morning, except for DAVID STOCKMAN who will argue Tax Cuts are BS on This Anampour. The aforementioned MCCONNELL will twist his wits against JAMES CLYBURN on Face The Bob. The only other Dem in the whole Sunday lineup is CHRIS VAN HOLEN State of Candy and the rest are all fine brick targets, too many to list here so see below. NOTABLE MENTION: President Not Sure on 60 Minutes! The Brick TeeVee Crew woke up Wednesday to see the Buckeye State turned into some combination of Oklahoma, Kansas and South Carolina with a Red Tsunami on the open US Senate seat, Guvnor, SoS, Treasure, AG and BOTH OH Chambers turned a bright crimson, plus leaving only FIVE Dem Reps returning to the US House in Dennis Kucinich, Marcy Kaptur, Marcia Fudge, Tim Ryan and Betty Sutton. Remember these names as the 112th United States Congress convenes and the Progressive Caucus coalesces. Seems the only state with any kind of memory was CALIFORNIA who turned back Corporatists Fiorina and Whitless. Hold on to your seats as the Plutocrats and their GOPher enablers move their agenda forward next year! (For the record, certainly there are plenty of Plutocrats in the Dems too but many of the worst Blue Dogs were jettisoned Tuesday too. Now we just have to get those Wall St. types out of the Cabinet! Haha!) Enjoy your Sunday and the upcoming week!

Offshore Drilling is Not The Answer: Restore the Moratorium
from Surfrider Foundation (h/t jen)
SPILL BABY SPILL
The tragic and devastating oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is a stark reminder that offshore oil drilling is not the answer.
The Deepwater Horizon rig that exploded and sank has spilled millions of gallons of oil into the ecologically rich waters in the Gulf of Mexico and continues to gush 210,000 gallons of oil into the sea every day. The spill remains unabated and now has the potential to become one of the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history. The unfolding catastrophe clearly illustrates that offshore drilling is not safe and new technology is not fool proof.
Tell the Obama Administration new drilling is NOT THE ANSWER. Our coasts and the economy they support cannot withstand anymore!
We are reminded why the 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara and the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill led to state and federal moratoriums on offshore oil drilling. The tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico makes it clear that it is time once again time to restore those moratoriums.

    • VIDEO! Wall Street Cheats the Middle Class Again If it seems like America’s big banks still aren’t playing by the rules, that’s probably because they aren’t. Their thinking is that because they are too big to fail, and too influential in Washington, they can just get Washington to change the rules as they go along and bail them out whenever needed. And sadly that’s what is happening in America today. Banks keep breaking the rules; Washington pretends not to notice, while the middle class is being forced to pick up the tab for the whole mess. Mike Papantonio talks about the latest Wall Street swindle with Mike Lux, co-founder and CEO of Progressive Strategies.
    • VIDEO! The Face of an American Generation Lost Republicans in Washington had no problem handing over billions of dollars to their pals on Wall Street when they were in trouble, but they refuse to extend unemployment benefits for Americans who are still unable to find work in our economy. And even as corporate profits have reached back up to record levels, job creation has remained stagnant. The result of this is that we’ve created a lost generation of American workers – those people who want to work, but can’t find meaningful employment. Mike Papantonio talks with investigative journalist Andy Kroll, who’s been travelling the country, meeting with this lost generation that the Republicans don’t seem to care about.

Denying AGW makes you poor and stupid by maxkeiser Back in 2005 AGW holocaust provokers and slanderous goofballs Steve Milloy and Tom Borelli of the infamous AGW denial site junkscience dot com attacked Max and Stacy in the press and launched the Free Enterprise Action Fund – while we were pushing gold. Five years later the results are in; their fund has folded* with a loss – while gold has increased in value by 300% . . . and maxkeiser dot com now has 10 times the traffic of junkscience dot com. A simple analysis of the demographic information comparing the two sites on Alexa shows that maxkeiser dot com viewers are richer (thanks to that gold they’ve been buying) and more educated (thanks to avoiding junkscience and other Koch propaganda). The choice is simple: rich and smart vs. poor and stupid....

Global Capital: Alternative Perspective on the 20th and 21st Centuries by Damon Vrabelr Debunking Money #4 and #5: In an attempt to layout the way the world really works rather than believing the false notion that 40-something fresh Ivy League grads serving as politicians have the power, these lessons further the Debunking Money narrative that debt-based hierarchical money = financial leverage = true power. Lesson 4 revisits the 20th century past to reconsider where we’ve been, and lesson 5 peers into the 21st century future for a clearer perspective on where we’re headed.
